The training division of the Walton County Sheriff's Office is responsible for assuring that training is conducted in accordance with the Peace Officers Standards and Training of Georgia and the standards of the Sheriff in order to properly serve the citizens of Walton County. Georgia law enforcement officers must maintain a specific level of training per year as per the Official Code of Georgia Annotated 35-8-21.

The following is a list of Tentative Training Classes, dates and times for the remainder of the year. The classes that are in bold are mandatory for all sworn personnel to attend. Please read carefully! There may be additional classes added during the year as needed.
2008

	January 22nd and 24th: 0800 and 1300 – Courtroom Testimony

	February 19^th and 21^st: 0800 and 1300 - Critical Incident Response

	March 17^th thru 21^st and 24^th thru 28^th: time to be announced – Low light / shotgun training.

	March 31^st – April 4^th: Personal Escort Security – Limited to 20 officers - $125.00 fee per officer

	April 15^th and 17^th: 0800 and 1300 (4hrs) - Pursuits and Searches.

	April 22^nd and 24^th: 0830 (2hrs) - Physical Fitness Test.

	May 13^th and 15^th: 0800 and 1300 – Crime Scene Preservation and Evidence Collection

	June 17^th and 19^th: 0800 and 1300 (4hrs) – Ethics and Professionalism

	July 15^th and 17^th: 0800 and 1300 (4hrs) – Report Writing. (Mandatory for all Detention Personnel)

	August 19^th and 21^st: 0800 and 1300 (2hrs) - Elder Abuse.

	September 9^th and 11^th: 0800 – 1700 (8 hrs.) - Defensive Tactics Refresher

	September 16^th and 18^th: 0800 and 1300 (2hrs) – Legal Updates.

	Oct. 13^th thru 17^th & 20^th thru 24^th: 0800 and 1300 (4hrs) – Firearms Re-qualification / Use of Force.

	October 28^th and 30^th: 0830 (2hrs) – Physical Fitness Test.

	November 4^th and 6^th: 0800 (8hrs) – M-26 Taser Certification.

	November 11^th and 13^th: 0800 (8hrs) – X-26 Taser Certification. (If Needed)

	November 18^th and 20^th: 0800 and 1300 (4hrs) – Building Clearing and Room Searches

	December 2^nd and 4^th: 0800 (2hrs) – M-26 Taser Recertification.

	December 9^th and 11^th: 0800 and 1300 (2hrs) – Crisis Intervention.

	December 16^th and 18^th 0800 and 1300 (2hrs) – X-26 Taser Recertification.
