This
program is taught by certified Police Officers at the Walton County
Sheriffs Office once a month. The ADAP program is the state of Georgia's
Official program that all teens must pass in order to receive a driver's
license. Call in order to enroll and get class schedule.

For
ages 14 - 16 parent and child attend class together topics include:
driver attitude, knowledge, and behavior, teen driving facts and statistics,
crash dynamics, the graduate driver's licensing process and Georgia
teen driving law. This class is designed to complement existing driver's
education program. After completing the 2-hour course you receive a
letter from John Oxindine, Georgia's Insurance Commissioner.

ages 15 to adult. Topics include collision prevention, collision avoidance
techniques, common driving violations, and how to change driving habits
to avoid violations. After completing this 6hr course you will receive
a certificate of completion that may give you a 10% discount on your
insurance.

For
ages 10 to adult. This program uses specially designed goggles that
allow the driver to experience their environment through the eyes of
someone under the influence of a chemical such as alcohol. A component
of the program involves an obstacle course in which the participant
drives a golf cart while wearing the Fatal Vision goggles. This is a
2hr program that is available for groups including schools, churches,
civic clubs and scouting groups. Call to schedule the program for your
group.

This
program is not a driver's education course, but offers young drivers
the knowledge and techniques to avoid crashes and to choose safe, responsible
and lawful driving behaviors. Students will learn the benefits of seat
belt usage, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving and how
to maintain control of a vehicle in adverse driving situations. Taught
by Walton County Sheriff's Department deputies, classroon instruction
is partnered with a hands-on driving experience. Utilizing a specialized
go-cart called S.I.D.N.E. (Simulated Impaired DriviNg Experience developed
by Innocorp, Ltd.), students aew allowed to learn how quickly they could
lose control of a vehicle if driving impaired.

Licenses
- Instructional
Permit (Class CP): granted to a 15 year-olds upon passage of a written
examination. This permit allows the driver to practice driving under
the supervision of an adult 21 years of age or older who currently holds
a valid drivers license.
- Intermediate
License (Class D): granted to drivers between 16 and 18 years of
age who have held an instructional permit for twelve months and passed
a comprehensive on the road driving test. Restrictions of this license
include: no driving between the hours of 12:00 am and 6:00 am, for the
first six months passengers must be immediate family members only, anyone
applying for this permit must have
A)
an approved driver education course totaling at least 20 hours of supervised
driving 6 hours at night
-OR-
B) a total of at least 40 hours of supervised driving at least 6 hours
at night.
- Full
License (Class C): granted to drivers 18 years or older who have
a class D license, no major traffic convictions for the previous 12
months.
Driving
Under The Influence
1)
A driver under the age of 21 is considered DUI at the blood alcohol
level of .02.
2)
A driver under the age of 21 is considered DUI if under the influence
of any drug to the extent
that it less safe to drive.
3) A
driver under the age of 21 is considered DUI if under the intentional
influence of any glue,
aersol, or other toxic vapor to the extent that it
less safe to drive.
License
Suspension
For
a driver under 21 license suspension can occur if convicted or adjudicated
of any of the following:
Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
Racing
Reckless driving
Hit and run
Purchase of an alcoholic beverage
Misrepresenting identity or using false identification for the purpose
of purchasing or obtaining
any alcoholic beverage
Any moving violation for which four or more points are assessable
For drivers under age 18 an accumulation of four or more points in a
12-month period
A first conviction for DUI in which the driver's blood alcohol concentration
is .08 grams or higher
will result in a 12 month suspension
School
Attendance and your license
If
you are under the age of 18 you may not obtain a class D or C permit
unless you are enrolled in public, private, or home school authorized
by law or have graduated from high school or received a certificate
of completion.
Any
student under the age of 18 who has dropped out of school and remained
out of school for 10 days or has 10 days or more unexcused absences
is subject to a suspension of their permit of license until their 18
birthday.

Suspension
And The Driver's License
A
student who is suspended from school for one or more of the following
offenses will have their license suspended until their 18 birthday:
Threatening, striking or causing bodily harm to a teacher or other school
personnel
Possession or sale of drugs or alcohol on school grounds
Possession or use of a weapon on school grounds
Any sexual offense prohibited under chapter 6 of title 16
Causing substantial physical or visible bodily harm to or seriously
disfiguring another person, including another student.
